How to Test Your Million Dollar Idea
Published in Hardcover by Random House Value Pub (November, 1984)
Average review score:

From the testing of your ideas, this book is really GREAT!Over the years, I have perused many, many books on entrepreneurial creativity, but this book is the only one that really covers the evaluating and testing of your ideas with great depth. The author's IVS (idea value score) system involving a total of 250 test questions is worth many, many times your book investment. The test is self guided and self monitored. According to the author, he had studied some 100 case histories to compile the test questions for readers. His sources included the Harvard School of Business and the American Managament Association. Hence, the test questions are quite sophisticated. Although this book has been written from the pre-internet era, the book's coverage of test questions is still very relevant and appropriate to entrepreneur wannabes. I enjoy particularly the book's logical discipline in helping me to develop and enhance my own evaluative thinking processes. The book ends with a Blueprint for a Winning Proposal. Although the end portion is not indepth enough - it is not the focus of the book anyway - I still find the author's 10-must-point suggestions for a good proposal very useful. For a broader and deeper focus of the latter, I would recommend readers to get hold of Joseph McLeary's By the Numbers: Using Facts & Figures to Get Your Ideas Approved. I am very glad I found this idea testing book in a used book store.

Howard Baker: Conciliator in an Age of Crisis
Published in Hardcover by Madison Books (January, 1995)
Average review score:

The Well-Told Story of an American Political HeroThe state of Tennessee has had a proud political heritage from the days of the Declaration of Independence to the election of 2000. One of Tennessee's most recent shining lights was Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr. Baker's story is one of true grin-and-bear-it grit. A political fighter, Baker learned the art of compromise in dealing with the heavily Democratic senates of the 1960s and early 1970s. He was a powerful senator during the Nixon years, vice chairing Senator Ervin's Select Senate Committee on Watergate, earning him the respect and admiration of a grateful nation. Baker's candor and likeability allowed him to become the Minority Leader for the Republicans and sent him stumping all over the nation in the eventual hopes of having a Republican Senate. Baker fought his aspirations of the presidency through Watergate, the Energy Crisis, the Panama Canal Treaties, and the START II negotiations because he believed that a strong nation stemmed from a working relationship between parties rather than gridlock. He fought hard for partnership rather than partisanship, but his good deeds and responsibility to his leadership duties cost him in his 1980 campaign to be his party's presidential nominee. The book is a great read for all those interested in political history or for those just itching to hear the tale of a politician who actually helped build America up rather than tear her down. Very similar to Lee Annis' co-authored book Tennessee Senators 1911-2000 (authored by Sen. Bill Frist).

The ultimate animation bookThis book contains a wealth of information about the history of animation as well as the art and science of creating an animated film. This well written and very readable book reflects the hard earned experience and wisdom of a true expert in the field. The book is also chock full of useful and amusing illustrations by the author. No student or professional in the field of animation should consider his or her library complete without a copy of this book. But this book will not get dusty sitting on a shelf. It's a wonderful resource that you will want to refer to time and again.

A welcome contribution to American art historyIn Howard Finster: The Early Years, Thelma Bradshaw (Finster's daughter) provides an informative, intimate memoir and tribute to her 80 year old father's life and work. The reader is treated to rare and previously unpublished family photos of Finster in Trion, Georgia, along with his early work. Howard Hall's Guide to Successful Underwater Photography
Published in Paperback by West Coast Divers Supplies (December, 1982)
Average review score:

I recommend this superb book to all U/W photographers.I have read this book several times, and review it before any major photo expedition. Howard concentrates on the essential art of underwater photography in a concise, readable, meaningful way. He avoids extraneous technical information that so many other manuals use as filler, and focuses clearly on the essence of underwater photography. I gave my original copy away as a gift, and was overjoyed when I was able to pick up a used copy of this out of print paperback. I recommend this superb book to all underwater photographers, new and old.
